Old Lyme's Midsummer Festival, a townwide celebration of the arts, will be on Friday and Saturday, July 26 and 27, featuring activities along Lyme Street, which is home to the Florence Griswold Museum, the Lyme Art Association and the Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts. In addition, events will be held at Old Lyme Inn, Studio 80 + Sculpture Park, Center School with the Plein Air Fence Show Artists and a variety of Lyme Street merchants.
This is a sculpture by Gil Boro. His studio is at Studio 80+, whose grounds are home to 70 contemporary sculptures.
On Friday, July 26, three free receptions from 5 to 7 p.m. will be held at Lyme Art Association, Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts and the Florence Griswold Museum. From 7 to 9 p.m. at the Griswold, the bluegrass band Poor Old Shine will perform. Picnicking is welcome, and barbecue food will be for sale. On Saturday, July 27, free shuttle bus service will be available from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. from the parking lots at the Old Lyme Marketplace, the Griswold, Lyme Academy, Lyme-Old Lyme High School, Lyme-Old Lyme Center and Middle Schools, and Old Lyme PGN Library.
Breakfast and lunch can be bought at the Griswold from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. At that location, Market En Plein Air features Connecticut-grown flowers, fruits, vegetables, breads, fine cheeses, herbs and specialty foods and Crafted-by-Hand: An Artisan Fair features artisans from Connecticut.
