Benefit Performance

Laurence Luckinbill stars in solo show "Clarence Darrow Tonight" (October 30, 2012)

Clarence Darrow Tonight!,” the award-winning one-man show created and performed by Laurence Luckinbill, will receive a special benefit performance on Friday, Nov. 2, at 7:30 p.m. in the café space at Unity of Greater Hartford, 919 Ellington Road in South Windsor.

According to the press release: "Nominated for the New York City Drama Desk Award for best script and performance, “Clarence Darrow Tonight!” introduces audiences to the great American lawyer and humanitarian known to his many opponents as The Great Satan.  Clarence Darrow was fearless and vociferous in his defense of underdog clients and unpopular causes.  Among his many historic cases were the Scopes trial in Tennessee and the Leopold/Loeb murder trial in Chicago.  Luckinbill’s script draws from Darrow’s own writings to create a vivid portrait of a man passionately dedicated to upholding the rights of individuals against the dictates of government or religion.

Luckinbill has written and performed one-man shows based on the lives of Ernest Hemingway, Lyndon Johnson and, most recently, the biblical patriarch Abraham.

The performance will benefit Unity of Greater Hartford, a spiritual community committed to exploring and practicing universal spiritual principles, and to affirming the innate divinity and creative power of every individual.

Tickets: $15.  Advance reservations are available by phoning 860-289-8963, or at www.unityhartford.org.
