Philomen Terer of Kenya won the half-marathon in 1:05:42 and his best friend and training partner Benard Langat was second in 1:05:49 at Saturday's ING Hartford Marathon.
Stephanie Reilly, an Irish Olympic steeplechaser who coaches cross country and track at Bryant College, was the women's winner (1:15:40). Katie Moulton of Providence was second (1:18:05) and Lydia Carrick of Wilimgton, Delaware third (1:19:13).
Shannon McHale of Simsbury was the first state finisher (fourth, 1:20:27).
Jonas Hocking was the first state men's finisher (fifth, 1:07:11).
Samuel Alexander, an assistant coach at Central Connecticut from New Britain, won the 5K in 15:28 and Jeanne Mack of Bristol, R.I. was the women's 5K winner (18:03).
