Capital Prep fell a point short of becoming the first cross country team from Hartford to win a state title since 1950 at the Class S championship meet at Wickham Park. The Trailblazers lost to defending champion Bolton, which had 71 points. But Dhahran Velasquez, a Capital Prep junior, won the Class S title and finished fifth at the State Open.
Senior Henry Wynne of Staples-Westport swept the Class LL and the State Open titles and then went to Maine and capped off his season with a New England title.
Led by Brendan Callahan, the Bolton boys won their fourth title in the last five years in Class S.
Lewis Mills-Burlington senior Kevin Sullivan won the Class M title and the Berkshire League championship.
Peter Brandon led Haddam-Killingworth to the Class SS championship after the Cougars were forced to go home because of the snowstorm at the meet the year before.
