Lee Daniels' The Butler

PG-13; Forest Whitaker, David Banner, Mariah Carey, Alex Pettyfer, Oprah Winfrey, John Cusack, James Marsden. Based on a true story, Cecil Gaines served as a butler in the White House for eight terms, major events such as the Civil Rights Movement, Vietnam War, and more, affecting his life. A seemingly amazing plot, great cast, and overarching historical theme, this movie should be a heartbreaker, comedy, and most of all a hit. 5 stars

R; Vin Diesel, Jordi Mollà, Karl Urban, Katee Sackhoff, Matt Nable, Dave Bautista, Raoul Trujillo, Bokeem Woodbine, and Nolan Gerard Funk. Abandoned on a barren planet filled with otherworldly beasts, Richard B. Riddick must re-channel his inner animal in order to master his surroundings and manipulate his way off this barely habitable world. This high intensity film, packed with awe-inspiring special effects, is a must see for anyone looking for action and suspense. 3 stars

The Family

Sept. 13

R; Robert De Niro, Michele Pfeiffer

An ex-mafia family movies to France and has a little trouble adjusting. Their struggle looks crazy but hilarious, I'm excited to watch it unfold. 4 stars

Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2

Sept. 23

PG; Bill Hader, Anna Faris, Will Forte. In the sequel, Flint Lockwood and his pals must return to their home on Swallow Falls to save the world from the deliciously deadly beasts his infamous invention has created before the mutants make their way to the main land. With the perfect combination of food and comedy, I can imagine Cloudy 2 will be the family movie of the year. 4 stars

Oct. 4
R; Adam Scott, Richard Jenkins, Catherine O'Hara. A.C.O.D., or Adult Children of Divorce, is a dramedy about a young man struggling with his parents’ animosity towards each other and his brother's hasty engagement. It looks like a feel-good movie (one of the few non-horror films coming out in October) with a cute story. 3 stars

Oct. 4

PG-13; Sandra Bullock, George Clooney. On a routine spacewalk, a medical engineer and veteran astronaut are left stranded in space after their shuttle is destroyed by space debris. With his brilliant work on Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and Children of Men, I expect Alfonso Cuarón’s latest work to be a visual spectacle that explores the human form. 5 stars
