Dr. Abdus Saleem Family Scholarship¿

For entering freshmen in college. Applicant must have a GPA of 3.5 or higher, be majoring in areas but not limited to medical technology, oil and energy, computer science, journalism, or business administration, and be an American citizen or permanent resident. AXA Achievement Community Scholarship

For high school seniors. Applicants must possess outstanding achievement in school, community, or work activities. Special consideration will be given to students who have made exceptional achievements that empower society to “better face risk through education and action in areas such as financial, environmental, health, and emergency preparedness.” www.axa-achievement.com

Arts for Life Scholarship

For high school seniors. Applicants must write an essay explaining “how the arts have positively influenced my life” and a portfolio of work in creative writing, dance, drama, music, or visual art. artsforlifeaward.org/apply/

National Peace Essay Contest

For high school students in grades 9-12. Applicants must submit a 1,500 word essay in response to the topic, “How does security sector reform contribute to sustainable peace?” www.usip.org/category/course-type/national-peace-essay-contest

Award: National Awards: first place, $10,000; second place $5,000; third place, $2,500. National winners will also receive an invitation to the 3-day awards program in Washington, D.C. State Awards: first place, $1,000 each.
