  • Louisville riverboat fest

    Louisville riverboat fest
Paddle-wheel riverboats bring back memories of reading "Tom Sawyer" and thoughts of the Mississippi River. Louisville will be awash in the big boats on the Ohio River Oct. 14-19 with its Centennial Festival of Riverboats, which is celebrating the 100th birthday of the Belle of Louisville. It's touted as the oldest operating Mississippi River-style steamboat. There'll be five historic riverboats present during most of the festival (six on Oct. 18), and the special events include races. A variety of cruises will be available on the boats, including dining, history and heritage or a chance to sample Kentucky's famous bourbon. Also planned is a river parade of boats, live entertainment, hot-air balloons putting on a balloon glow and fireworks. Info:
