  5. Torrington's Warner Theatre Hosts a Downton Abbey-Themed Party For the Premiere of Season 3

    And there was much rejoicing by British-TV obsessives: Connecticut's own CPTV celebrates its 50th year of existence with a gala of Edwardian proportions at Torrington's Warner Theatre on Saturday, starting at 5:30 p.m. For $60 a head, participants (encouraged to dress in period clothing) will drink from a smattering of wines, dine oh-so-elegantly on hors d'oeuvres (provided by the Litchfield Saltwater Grille) and politely view a presentation on <em>Downton Abbey</em>-era fashion, before plunking their Yankee hindquarters in preferred seats for the advance screening of the <em>Downton Abbey</em>, Season 3 premiere. (Common folks are also welcome, free of charge, but they still need to reserve ahead of time.) The show, written and created by Julian Fellowes, features an all-star cast (pictured). The <em>DA</em> season premiere will air on CPTV on Sunday, Jan. 6 at 9 p.m. The Warner Theatre is located at 68 Main Street in Torrington. For reservations visit warnertheatre.org or cpbn.org.

    Perhaps the last thing you want to think about the weekend after Thanksgiving is more food. But Buddy Valastro (pictured), star of TLC's "Cake Boss," bakes the hell out of cakes. And he'll bring his special live show to Torrington's historic Warner Theatre on Sunday, just after you've ingested enough pumpkin pie to last you another year. Valastro mixes family stories, traditions, holiday spirit and rock and roll with just enough behind-the-scenes tales from the taping of his popular show.     October is THE month to get the bejesus scared out of yourself. Most of us head into it blindly, totally unprepared for what lies on the other side of the curtain. There's paranormal prep-work to be done, so head to Torrington's Warner Theatre on Friday for <em>Ghost Hunters Live </em>with Jason Hawes and Steve Gonsalves, from Syfy's number-one-rated paranormal television series, and bone up. They'll regale you with tales of supernatural dealings and freaky encounters all evening long, or go early in the day (11:30 a.m.) for the <em>RiseUp Paranormal CT</em>, a four-hour interactive ghost hunting tour that takes aim at the spirits who live in the Warner Theatre itself.
