New Study: Playing Music Improves Kids' Brain Development

No real surprise but affirming and important to hear. A new study by University of Vermont College of Medicine researchers shows that playing instruments helps "kids focus their attention, control their emotions and diminish their anxiety." Called "the largest investigation of the association between playing a musical instrument and brain development," the study was conducted by a team of child psychiatrists who concluded that music is a vital component to a youngsters' environment.
