Del McCoury Band In Norfolk And Hartford
The Del McCoury Band, who'll play both Infinity Halls this weekend (in Norfolk and Hartford), is somewhat of a family band; sons Ronnie (mandolin) and Rob (banjo) both play music with their father, singer/guitarist Del, along with bassist Alan Bartram and Jason Carter, an award-winning fiddle player. Two generations — maybe more — have learned about McCoury through the proselytizing of Grateful Dead guitarist Jerry Garcia, who was influenced by the Pennsylvania-born musician's banjo work with Bill Monroe's Bluegrass Boys. McCoury, 75, shows few signs of wanting to slow down; earlier this year, the McCourys won a Grammy for Best Bluegrass Band for "The Streets of Baltimore," their most recent album, and they also managed to cram in two other big projects — an album-length tribute to Monroe and a collaboration with the Preservation Hall Band — since 2011. Anyway, bluegrass isn't sitting-down music; both Halls should be rocking.
