The three sharp-dressed members of Soulive play smart, dirty funk rock, armed with Eric Krasno's heroic guitar solos, Neal Evan's organ swells (and lethal left-hand bass runs) and Alan Evan's steady bashing. Last March at the Brooklyn Bowl, the jamband mainstays traded licks with the Allman Brother Band's Warren Haynes and George Porter (of the Meters), supported guest singer Nicki Bluhm and locked horns with a horn section. Soulive's upcoming show at Toad's Place is the last gasp of their New Year's Run, so expect to keep partying.
SOULIVE performs on Saturday, Jan. 3, at Toad's Place in New Haven. Showtime is 9 p.m. Tickets are $20. Information:
