"The Tales of Hoffman": Considering the subject matter of Jacques Offenbach’s 130-year-old opera, we’re surprised it doesn’t star Matthew McConaughey. The Palm Beach Opera’s production includes three short stories, each a romantic comedy focusing on E.T.A. Hoffman, author of “The Nutcracker and the Mouse King.” Here, Hoffman is the underdog protagonist who has rotten luck at landing the perfect woman. Opens 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Kravis Center (701 Okeechobee Blvd., West Palm Beach). $25-$135. 561-832-7469 or Kravis.org. - Phillip Valys
