Story | Jan 16, 2013 | 4:30 PMTwo upcoming Sundance offerings, Shane Carruth's "Upstream Color" and Sarah Polley's "Stories We Tell," are among the first seven pics to be set for Gotham's New Directions/New Films. The 42nd annual series, co-programmed by the Museum of Modern Art and the Film Society of Lincoln Center, has tapped an initial lineup from around the world including "Hold Back," Rachid Djaidani''s multi-culti Paris-set take on "Romeo and Juliet," and "The Color of the Chameleon," a Bulgarian black comedy from Emil Christov about the secret police and one of their informants. "Upstream Color," the anticipated follow-up to Carruth's 2004 debut "Primer," centers on a kidnapping entwined with a love story. "Tales" reps Polley's first shift from narrative into documentary with a nonfiction look at the life of her mother. Also set for ND/NF are Tobias Lindholm's "A Hijacking," a Danish pic about a cargo ship seized by pirates; JP Sniadecki and Libbie Dina Cohn's "Peoples Park," a look at a Chinese community in a single tracking shot; and Matias Pineiro's "Viola," an Argentine movie about a group of actresses caught up in a stage production of "Twelfth Night." Further titles for the slate, which usually numbers around 25 or 30 titles, have yet to be set. This year's ND/NF series runs March 20-31.
