1. Oh, How I Miss Joan Rivers' Bad Manners On The Red Carpet

The Hartford Courant
I attended the Academy Awards this year, as I usually do. For the record I was wearing a gray T-shirt and a pair of plaid flannel pajama bottoms from the Ocean State Job Lot collection. I looked fabulous, at least that's what the person doing the...

3. And The Oscar Goes To...Argo For Best Picture

The 85th Annual Academy Awards were handed out last night and it looks like Ben Affleck’s Best Director snub didn’t ruin his film’s chances, because Argo continued its award show dominance, nabbing the night’s big honor Best Picture (which was announced by First Lady Michelle Obama). Overall Argo took home three awards, also winning Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Film Editing. As for the acting categories, there really weren’t too many surprises, with all of the frontrunners walking away winners. As expected, Best Actor went to Daniel Day Lewis for Lincoln (the first actor to win three Oscars in the Lead Actor category), with Jennifer Lawrence taking home Best Actress for Silver Linings Playbook (and falling up the stairs as she went to accept); Anne Hathaway winning Best Supporting Actress for Les Miserables and Christoph Waltz winning Best Supporting Actor for Django Unchained. Other winners included: Ang Lee, Best Director for Life of Pi; Brave, Best Animated Feature; Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained, Best Original Screenplay and Adele’s “Skyfall,” Best Original Song.

5. The Oscars telecast's rocky road

Last night's Oscars were like an emotional roller-coaster at a terrible amusement park--beginning wth Seth MacFarlane's as-bad-as-feared monologue, the show rarely rose above painful and hit few peaks. Allow us to relive some of the night's best and worst moments, not necessarily in that order.

"I THINK it's a terrible shame that politics has become show business," said director Sydney Pollack. WHILE first lady Michelle Obama lent herself to the opening of the Oscar envelope for best picture, bets were that she hoped the winner would turn out...

13. Book adaptations are big winners at Oscars

To find the inspiration behind the actors, actresses and others who hoisted Oscars last night, look no further than the works in your nearest library, bookstore or e-reader. The big winners were drawn from characters in adaptations that ranged from a mid-19th Century novel to modern magazine articles. It's another sign that the lifeblood of the movie industry is not glitz and glamour, but rather the imagination of an author toiling alone at a kitchen table.
