  1. In China, let a thousand blogs bloom

China employs an army of censors. As many as 50,000 well-trained monitors police the Internet, and 12 government departments are empowered to search and seize information and shut down users and sites. They work fast: A recent study conducted by two American computer scientists found that 30% of banned posts are removed within half an hour of posting, and 90% within 24 hours.

  3. It's always a party with Danny Brown in the house

For Danny Brown, rap is a party, and everyone's invited. During the Detroit artist's sold-out show Thursday night at Bottom Lounge, this point was made repeatedly by the performer himself. But more importantly it was driven home by an energy and presentation that went well beyond merely paying lip service to the idea that a hip-hop show is supposed to be celebratory. Repeatedly greeting the audience with his tongue stuck out, flashing devil horns with his hands, the wild-haired Brown served as enthusiastic ringleader for a lively, moshing crowd throughout the night.

  7. Coachella 2013: 2 Chainz, Action Bronson represent rap

There isn't much hip-hop on Coachella's main stage this year, which marks a significant shift from 2011 and 2012, when Kanye West and then Dr. Dre & Snoop Dogg closed the annual festival with blow-out Sunday-night performances. But rap fans still had plenty to watch Saturday afternoon, with back-to-back sets in the Outdoor Theater by Action Bronson and Danny Brown and a jam-packed Mojave Tent appearance by the Atlanta strip-club king 2 Chainz.

  17. Dan Duquette says his Montreal Expos were 'Moneyball 1'

OAKLAND, Calif. — Before Michael Lewis' book "Moneyball" hit the best sellers list and before Brad Pitt brought Oakland A's general manager Billy Beane to the big screen in the Academy Award-nominated film of the same name, the concept of building a small-market club through shrewd acquisitions, farm system strengthening and an obsession with on-base percentage had already been featured north of the border.

  21. Unitas would be amused at feud about Flacco playing him in a movie

Having co-hosted a pre-game radio show with John Unitas for four years while producing the radio broadcasts on WCBM for the Baltimore Colts, I think John would be laughing over the family feud about Joe Flacco portraying him in a movie. John would probably remark that Joe is a little too tall for the role.

An unhealthy side effect of covering TV too long is beginning to think like executives and producers. So as reports began dribbling out about the suspects in the Boston Marathon bombing, it was hard not to mutter somewhat guiltily, "Two guys age 19 and 26...
