  3. DVD Review: Get 'Hearts' on a shoestring

One of the greatest home video developments in recent years has been a few studios' embracing of “manufactured on demand” DVDs — a way for film buffs to get their hands on favorites that have been deemed (rightly or wrongly) not likely...

  7. Patt Morrison Asks: Inside guy, Buck Henry

Buck Henry arguably made his showbiz debut at the age of 2, when his mother, the silent film star Ruth Taylor, took him to the Paramount lot to show him off. She denied then that she wanted him to go into movies. Sorry, Mom. Henry has become a polymath of directing, acting, and for my money, especially writing -- "The Graduate"; "Catch-22"; that fine dark comedy of manners, "To Die For"; TV's "Get Smart," with Mel Brooks; and a generation later, the seminal "Saturday Night Live" -- which he hosted for a then-record-setting 10 times. He beavers away on screenplays, plays and sundry prose; I pestered him into a lunch interview in West Hollywood. It was engagingly packed, with talk of the pleasures of "Hamlet" in German and a Hollywood/not Hollywood commentary on passing paraders, delivered with spare humor as dry as the natron used to stuff mummies. Hey -- isn't there a script in there somewhere?

  9. The meaning of an Emmy nomination: A round-table discussion

For a television critic, the Emmys are always a mixed bag. It's always great when shows and performances we have supported from the beginning are recognized, but sometimes — if you can believe it — the shows and people we believe deserve to...

It has its heart in the right place. It has a great cast. It will get nominated for lots of awards. It’s an entertaining film, but very flawed. It’s the story of black maids in Mississippi in the ‘60s, working for rich white families...

If hack screenwriters are going to give us aliens coming to Earth and being amazed by all our wacky ways…or they’re going to give us yet another body switching comedy…they better be funny.

Frankly My Dear - Orlando Sentinel
