DANCE REVIEW: 'Stardust' by David Rousseve/Reality

High school is seldom easy on anyone. But for the unseen protagonist of "Stardust," Junior, it's a living hell. Why did God make him black? he texts. Why did God make him gay?

This dance-theater work by Los Angeles-based David Rousseve/Reality, through Saturday at the Dance Center, can be ingenious, moving, even inspiring, especially early on. The boy's projected texts tell his story of violence, anger and loss vividly, in his voice; they're the wallpaper of his life, which becomes ours. His romantic dreams — seen in projected landscapes, heard in the Nat King Cole songs he loves — become ours.
