    Robert J. Burman85, passed away peacefully in his sleep Friday evening, Oct. 14, 2011 in Glendale, CA. He was born June 12, 1924 in Tacoma, Washington to Winifred (Larson) Burman and John Arthur Burman. Bob served in WWII in the Philippines. He was married to Marilyn Scott on September 7, 1947. They had two sons, one born in 1950 and one in 1960.He attended Auburn Academy (1943), Walla Walla College where he studied Pre Med from 1943-1944 and changed to Music from 1946-1947. He graduated from the University of Washington with a Bachelor’s of Architecture in 1952, Seattle Washington. He practiced architecture in Seattle until he moved to Glendale in 1960 and started an office there. He produced in Glendale over 35 years. He designed more than 85 churches on the West Coast. One of his favorites is the Vallejo Drive Seventh- day Adventist Church in Glendale. He was affiliated with the AIA, SARA, IFRAA, ASCA, GRA and Lit. Conf. He was the President of the Excalibur International, Glendale Chapter (1968-1969), President and Founder of Glendale Round Table in 1968, President of SDA Music & Fine Arts Guild from 1973-1974, the President of SARA for Southern California in 1981, Director of SARA National and Local in 198, Director of ASCA-National from 1975 to 1978, Director of AIA-LA. Chapter-SFV in 1979, ¿80, ¿82, and the secretary of AIA-LA in 1981, Director of the Kiwanis Glendale Chapter from 1977-1979, Director of Swedish Club of LA from 1981-1983, Commissioner of Building Dept ¿ City of Glendale from 1979 to1984, Chairman of ASCA Regional Conf. 1974, Chairman of Brand Library Art Experiences, Glendale in 1974, and the commissioner of the Planning Dept. for the City of Glendale from 2008-2011.He was a gentle creative man who loved his work very much.He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; two sons, Rob of Glendale and Erik of Eureka, CA; daughter in-law, Sherie and granddaughter, Kara; five nieces and nephews, and a sister in-law and niece.He had two brothers and a sister who are deceased.A memorial service will be held Nov. 5 at Vallejo Drive Seventh Day Adventist Church at 4:00 pm.
