     REVIEW: 'Mud, River, Stone' by Eclipse Theatre
    Long before she won the Pulitzer Prize for "Ruined," her searing drama about abused young women in the Congo seeking respite from soldiers on both sides of a civil war by working in a bar/brothel, Lynn Nottage bellied up to a different African bar. There, she hoped to examine the costs of war on young African men. But as Eclipse Theatre's production of 1997's "Mud, River, Stone" makes clear, this earlier piece shows a gifted playwright still struggling to find a balance between the sardonic comedy and social realism that marks her best work. The results are sometimes intriguing, frequently funny but definitely mixed.
