  • CRT prepares for '25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee'

    Gavin McNicholl was inspired by a 2010 production of "Urinetown" at UConn's Connecticut Repertory Theatre. "'Urinetown' is what made me want to come here," said McNicholl, who is now a sophomore in the performing arts program at the Storrs campus. "So getting to work with the show's director is fantastic." McNicholl is referring to Paul Mullins, the director of the satirical "Urinetown" and many other CRT productions, including "Hairspray" and last season's "Much Ado About Nothing." Mullins has returned to CRT to direct the upcoming production of "The 25th Annual Putnam Country Spelling Bee," and McNicholl plays one of the show's quirky, enthusiastic young contestants, Leaf Coneybear.
