Students donate quilts to hospital's neonatal unit

Members of the Broward Virtual School's Ambassadors of Hope program recently created no-sew fleece quilts that will help some special babies. The quilts, which were delivered to Plantation General Hospital's neonatal intensive care unit, initially serve as isolette covers to protect premature babies from the light, and later can be used as blankets for them. "A baby can be in there for months, so they use it when the baby gets held," said Christopher Gates, the program's founder. "They give them the blanket when they leave the hospital, so they have it as a memento. They can take it with their baby." The project struck a chord with program mentor...
