Board of Regents for Higher Education voted unanimously at its Thursday meeting to appoint Zulma R. Toro as the thirteenth president of Central Connecticut State University and the first woman and first Latino appointed president of the university.
A Board of Regents search committee recommended Toro, 56, who once worked at the University of New Haven, among three finalists after a seven-month long nationwide search that attracted 69 candidates. Toro is the University of Arkansas interim chancellor and an engineering professor.
She will begin Jan. 3 at an annual salary of $289,500. She will replace Jack Miller, who retired in September with a $328,000 salary.
