The University of Chicago is known for Nobel Prize-winning economists, and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign has bragging rights to several technology visionaries. But when it comes to producing the Fortune 500's current crop of chief executives, Illinois' institutions of higher learning come up short.

No college in Illinois cracks the top 10 list of the alma maters of today's captains of industry, according to a newly released analysis by Equilar.

The executive-data provider found Harvard and Stanford are the only universities to have awarded more than 10 undergraduate and graduate degrees to the current CEOs at the biggest U.S. companies.
