Plainville Students Retrofit Toy Cars For Kids to Use

A car assembly line in Plainville High School’s tech lab on Friday was as much Santa’s workshop as it was a science project.

For four hours, a crew of 40 middle- and high-schoolers from Plainville and students from Central Connecticut State University retrofitted five ride-in toy cars for children with disabilities.

“We decided to do this close to Christmas so this can be sort of an early present,” Plainville tech teacher Mark Chase said during a break Friday from helping student teams rewire cars so young drivers can use a button and not foot-triggered accelerators to power the cars.
