9. Irish Christmas: Jerry O'Sullivan Plays the Uilleann Pipes at Sacred Heart's Edgerton Center For the Performing Arts

Fairfield has always had a strong representation when it comes to the Irish population and lovers of Irish culture. As such, it's no surprise that the Edgerton Center is hosting a show called An Irish Christmas, putting a Gaelic spin on the usual holiday festivities. Performers include actors, musicians and storytellers like Ciaran Sheehan, Eilin O'Dea, John V. Shea and the John Whelan Band. Pictured is Jerry O'Sullivan who will blow the Uilleann pipes, an accomplished bagpiper who's performed on over 90 albums.

  11. Debates Are Where Competing Narratives Collide

The presidential debates usually are tightly scripted and well-rehearsed joint press conferences. But because they're one of the few places where our next president can speak to the country at length and unfiltered by the media, the debates matter now more than ever.

  17. Our Pick: Mary Wilson of the Supremes at the Edgerton Center for the Performing Arts

The Supremes were the ultimate girl group — and though Diana Ross garnered the most fame, Mary Wilson was responsible for one third of the group's output. She's also the only Supremes member that was part of the group for its full 18 year run. She'll be at Sacred Heart's Edgerton Center Friday night to sing her hits, and if you're a student it costs an entirely reasonable $25 for the show. Your reading assignment leading up the performance is Wilson's 1986 bestseller Dreamgirl: My Life as a Supreme in which she describes the trail she helped blaze as a female performer in the early, male-dominated music industry.

  19. Our Picks: Margaret Cho and Rich Little Bring Their Stand-Up Acts to Fairfield County

Margaret Cho and Rich Little are two comedians who've been at it for a long time. Well, one much longer than the other: Cho burst onto the scene 20 years ago with her biting critiques of social and political problems, focusing on close-to-home issues for her like race and sexuality. Rich Little, on the other hand, has been at it for 50 years. He does impressions, and is known as "The Man of 1,000 Voices." Most of the voices he's famous for are of celebrities who are no longer among the living (Jimmy Stewart, George Burns, Ronald Reagan and John Wayne), so let's see if he's updated his act to include more, uh, modern people and topics.

  23. Fairfield Fall Arts Preview: A Feast of Fall Arts

Fall in Fairfield County looks and behaves differently this year. You could call it artistic license, in the way that there are hunting seasons with special licenses for rare game.
