Rensselaer at Hartford, which concentrates on graduate programs for working professionals, has laid off about a quarter of its staff to adjust to declining enrollment.
The branch campus of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y. has 280 students, and now, 35 employees. At its peak, about five years ago, it had about three times as many, according to Dave Brond, a spokesman for the college.
The college is also shifting its focus in hopes of attracting more students. In the past, a lot of the focus at RPI Hartford was on MBAs, and Brond said it will shift in focus to engineering, science and computer science offerings.
