Foundations Honor Sandy Hook Victims Five Years Later

Five years after 26 people perished at Sandy Hook, the charities established in their names and the causes they support — art classes, music lessons, endangered whales — illustrate the breadth of what their families lost the morning of Dec. 14, 2012. One boy wanted to run a triathlon, so his parents started a free six-week camp to train kids to do what theirs never did. Parents of a 6-year-old girl have been sending kids to college with scholarships for music, their daughter’s favorite subject. One family is funding neurological research in hopes of learning what moves young people to commit violence. Another is funding research that probes the phenomenon of grief.
