Column | Sep 30, 2013 | 6:30 AMDEAR JOYCE: I read with interest your column with the letter from the individual who recommended that two-year college transfer students always check in advance which community college courses will transfer -- and which ones won't -- to a four-year university. I teach days at a high school and evenings at a community college and give out as much info as I can -- especially to the "first generation" college students. Community college students generally do best when they complete a degree, rather than just take random courses. Those who have earned a full degree will usually find that the colleges to which they transfer will waive general education requirements, but often will not if they are doing a course-by-course transfer.
