  2. Crews Fight Fire In East Hartford

EAST HARTFORD -- A furniture warehouse on George Street in East Hartford is on fire, sending up a plume of smoke that can be seen for miles. A wall of the BKM Furniture warehouse facing George Street has collapsed, and flames are growing. Roads are blocked and nearby businesses are being evacuated in the industrial neighborhood, just east of the Connecticut River. Firefighters from Hartford, West Hartford, New Britain and Manchester are assisting East Hartford crews, and Connecticut Light and Power and Connecticut Natural Gas personnel are on the scene. Electrical wires nearby are burning, and power has been cut to the area. Fire crews are hosing down neighboring businesses to protect them from the flames. Officials believe everyone escaped the building safely. The warehouse is at the corner of George and Cherry Streets.
