The state Board of Education has approved a Governor's Health Sciences Academy for students in Gloucester and Mathews.
Up to 100 students will be enrolled in classes offered at the two counties' high schools, said a spokesman for Gov. Bob McDonnell. The school systems will partner with Riverside School of Health Careers and Riverside Walter Reed Hospital for the classes.
McDonnell said the health sciences academy will "prepare our young people to take advantage of the thousands of high-demand, high-skill and high-wage career opportunities that will be created during the coming years in this rapidly growing sector of Virginia's economy."
