Here's a look at Tuesday's results from around the area:
Gloucester teammates Zach Robb and Kyle Rowe improved to shoot 76s on the second day of the Eastern Region golf tournament at Red Wing Golf Club in Virginia Beach and qualify for the state Group AAA tournament.
Grassfield won the championship at 612, while Cox was second at 620 to join the Grizzlies in the state team field. The Gloucester pair will compete at state with them Oct. 8-9 at Red Wing.
Robb tied for seventh at 153, and Rowe shared the 11th spot at 154. They led Gloucester to a tie with Kellam for third place in the 12-team tournament at 627 and were two of six golfers not from Grassfield or Cox to grab individual berths.
Also among the Peninsula leaders were the Dukes’ Hector Rios (156), Denbigh’s Keith Mays (157) and Menchville’s Adam Kennedy (157).
Grafton edged New Kent in a five-set thriller pitting two of the Bay Rivers District’s better teams. With the fifth set tied at 13,
Ashley Lind registered her 25th kill of the match — along with 30 digs — to put the Clippers at match point. Then Kendall Mahony converted a kill off Christa Hall’s set to give Grafton a 29-31, 25-15, 25-22, 25-27, 15-13 victory.
Twins Maggie and Emily Jackson had two goals apiece to lead Warwick (9-5, 7-1 Peninsula) past Heritage 6-1.
