Senior Michael Lyons of Newport News had 20 points, five rebounds and four assists to help Air Force beat No. 22 San Diego State 70-67 Saturday.

With the score tied at 64, Lyons — a Woodside High graduate — hit two baskets to give Air Force (14-6, 5-2 Mountain West) a 68-66 lead. The Falcons have won five games in a row.

Jamaal Franklin had 25 points, 10 rebounds and six assists for SDSU (16-5, 4-3).

Greensboro 72, CNU 69

Luqman Tijani scored 20 as the Pride (11-8, 5-5 USA South) stunned Christopher Newport (15-3, 8-2) at Freeman Center, withstanding a big comeback by the 16th-ranked Captains to end a 13-game losing streak in the rivalry.

Greensboro went on a 19-0 run for a 34-15 lead.

The Pride led 65-41 with less than 16 minutes left, but the Captains cut the margin to 70-69 with 15 seconds left. They missed two 3-point tries to tie.

Freshman Evan Thorpe led CNU with 20 points, and CNU’s Nik Biberaj had 19 points — 13 in the second half — and 12 rebounds.


Hampton (7-13, 4-3) scored two baskets in the final seconds to beat Morgan State 64-62 in Baltimore.

Deron Powers made a tying layup with 1.8 seconds left, the Bears committed a traveling violation, and Emmanuel Okoroba hit a buzzer-beating tip-in. Okoroba scored 18, Powers 17 and Du’Vaughn Maxwell 13 for the Pirates...

The host Spiders hit 25 of 31 free throws to the Musketeers' 20 of 31. Greg Robbins' 3-pointer at the 3:30 mark put the Spiders ahead for good at 61-59.
