Virginia Tech's football game next season at Ohio State will be two weeks earlier than originally scheduled to accomodate a national television appearance.

Tech will play at Ohio State on Sept. 6 instead of Sept. 20 after ESPN approached both schools about the possibility of either a full national telecast at 3:30 p.m. on Sept. 6 or a primetime telecast on that date. Both schools were on board with the date change.

Tech, which opens next season Aug. 30 at home against William & Mary, didn't have a game scheduled for Sept. 6, so no schedule changes were necessary. In addition to the W&M and Ohio State games, Tech will play non-conference games Sept. 13 against East Carolina and Sept. 27 against Western Michigan, both in Lane Stadium.

In 2015, Ohio State will travel to Tech to complete the home-and-home series. The game will be played Sept. 7, a Labor Day Monday night matchup to be telecast by ESPN.
