Save some green, get freebies on Earth Day

If you missed the free offers in honor of tax day, you have another chance to score themed swag on Friday.

Earth Day is a chance to save everything green, including the dollars in your pocket. Here are some of the free and discount offers available in Hampton Roads.

Starbucks is offering customers a free brewed coffee or tea if they bring in a reusable mug or tumbler. The brew can be hot or iced. Mugs will be 20 percent off at Starbucks locations, and any time you bring your own mug to the coffee shop, you’ll get 10 cents off your drink.

The U.S. National Park Service is waiving entrance fees through Sunday, April 24. Locally, guests can visit Historic Jamestowne and Yorktown Battlefield for free.

There are several free Shred-It events. During an Earth Day celebration on Friday in Yorktown, guests can have up to three boxes of documents shredded for free. The event takes place from noon to 2 p.m. at the Historic Triangle Earth Day Fair at 331 Water St., Yorktown.

On April 26, there is a free shredding event at Bronco Federal Credit Union, 3075 Godwin Blvd., Suffolk from 2 to 4 p.m. On May 5, the Williamsburg Association of Realtors is sponsoring a free shredding event from noon to 3 p.m. at 5000 New Point Road, Williamsburg.

On Saturday, Lowe’s is giving away 1 million trees to customers.

From now until Dec. 31, shoppers who purchase Energizer batteries can earn up to $40. In order to earn the reward, shoppers must collect three codes from participating battery packs. Each set of three codes will earn a $10 prepaid Mastercard, $10 deposited into your PayPal account or a $10 donation to the National Park Foundation — it is the shopper’s choice.

You can find the codes in the following battery packages: Max AA-8, AA-10 and AA-16, Ultimate Lithium AA-4, Advanced Lithium AA-4 and Recharge AA-4. Some battery variety packs and certain flashlights also contain codes.

Shoppers who sign up for a new e-VIC account at Harris Teeter on Friday will receive a reusable tote bag.

Through May 3, Harris Teeter VIC card holders will receive one point for every $1 they spend on Dannon products. When a shopper earns 20 points, they will receive $3 back on their grocery bill.  

Starting April 13 for a period of four weeks at participating Harris Teeter locations, shoppers who recycle their old baking pan at Harris Teeter will receive discounts on a new Good Cook baking pan.  Look for the Good Cook kiosk in your Harris Teeter for more information.

Harris Teeter VIC card customers will receive a free reusable bag when they purchase $5 or more in participating Seventh Generation products April 20 – April 26.
