Paul Long's stint as Emergency Services coordinator in Gloucester proved to be a short one.
Long has left employment in Gloucester has returned to his former position in York County. He began work in Gloucester on Jan. 1 at a salary of $69,000 a year.
Long declined to comment on his departure. A Gloucester County spokeswoman said Long told county officials he missed the fire services aspect of his former position with York County and decided to return to his previous position.
The coordinator's position has been advertised and Richard Parker has been named as the part-time interim head of the Emergency Services Office.
Parker is retired from the Virginia Department of Emergency Management and has "relevant experience and established relationships with state, regional and local emergency services personnel," said Gloucester County spokeswoman Christi Lewis.Long's brief tenure is similar in duration to that of former Gloucester County Assessor Rod Compton, who lasted just a couple of months on the job last year before returning to a previous position in Prince George County.
