NEWPORT NEWS — The ability to conduct open-heart surgery will be restored as of 7 p.m. Friday, a Riverside Health System spokesman said.
Riverside has been recruiting an anesthesiologist for Riverside Tappahannock Hospital. The candidate they hired is credentialed in cardiac anesthesiology, said Peter Glagola, a Riverside public-relations direction. The health system is expediting his credentials, and he will be available to be on call by 7 p.m. Friday, Glagola said.
A change in anesthesia providers at Riverside left a gap in coverage for open-heart surgery. Last week, Riverside replaced a long-standing relationship with Virginia Anesthesia and Perioperative Care Specialists with Soma Health Partners, an affiliate of Texas-based Compass Healthcare Group.
