Khadijah Berger commits to Temple. (August 2, 2013)
Hampton point guard Khadijah Berger, who will go into her senior season with 941 career points, has committed to Temple.
Berger took an unofficial visit to to the campus in Philadelphia last month. She turned down several suitors, including Virginia Tech, Delaware, Hampton and Marshall.
“They offered me then, and I felt comfortable there when I visited,” Berger said. “I felt I could show my talents at Temple and it felt like home. I like the environment, I like the city life, and obviously I like the coaching staff.”
Berger will be playing for Tonya Cardoza, who played for Debbie Ryan at Virginia and worked as an assistant to Geno Auriemma at Connecticut. She was part of five national championship teams with the Huskies.
“She was a big part of my decision,” Berger said. “I know she’ll have a big impact on my game.”
Berger was averaging 19.9 points a game, second in the Peninsula District to Woodside’s Adrienne Motley, when she sprained her knee in a Jan. 11 game against Phoebus. She missed six games and wasn’t the same player when she returned. She ended the season second at 17.1 points a game.
