"If you look the right way, you can see that the whole world is a garden." (Frances Hodgson Burnett)
In honor of the 80th Anniversary of Historic Garden Week in Virginia the City of Williamsburg and the Williamsburg Garden Club invite you to take to heart this quote from The Secret Garden and submit a photo of your favorite beautiful outdoor gardens or spaces in Williamsburg. The Grand Prize will be two state tickets (valued at $175) that will grant entry to ALL the homes and gardens across the state on the tour April 20-27, 2013. There are more than 200 homes and gardens open this year.
The runner-up will receive two tickets to the 80th Anniversary Historic Garden Week Williamsburg Tour on Tuesday, April 23, 2013.
As the quote says, we hope you'll think broadly about what constitutes a beautiful garden. Maybe for you it's a window box or sidewalk border. It can be your garden at home, one of Colonial Williamsburg’s gardens, or one of the City’s public spaces.
It might also be a courtyard, playground, trellis or front stoop. Whatever expresses for you the beauty of Williamsburg.
Participants should submit their entries to firstname.lastname@example.org, and they will be posted to the city’s Facebook page. Although not required, participants may also submit in 20 words or less why the space has meaning to them.
Please submit no more than 3 photos per person. Also, private gardens may be located in the Historic Triangle region, but any public space, architectural detail or sculpture must be in the City of Williamsburg.
The contest will run until Tuesday, April 16, 2013, and will be judged by the City’s Beautification Advisory Committee.
In addition, three entrants will be chosen at random to receive $25 gift certificates to The Trellis.
Winners will be announced Thursday, April 18.
