In past years, Ferguson Corp. has been a leading sponsor, and this year’s event has touched company employees in a personal way. Janet Holmes, customer service manager in the company, has a 2-year-old son, Brayden, that has been diagnosed with a rare form of brain cancer. Ferguson employees have lined up behind Brayden’s condition with a commitment to make this year’s Cooking for Life a winning success.
“The past six months have been a very difficult time,” said Holmes. “However, it is encouraging to know that the place you work is more than just a company, but a family that stands ready to volunteer their time to support an important cause. Raising money for the ACS through the Cooking for Life event is a great example of this.”
Cooking for Life is the Peninsula’s largest fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. Over the past five years, it has raised more than $325,000 for ACS research, education, advocacy and patient services.
Event activities include a wine tasting until 7:30 p.m., dishes served up by more than 15 Hampton Roads restaurants, and live and silent auctions. Live music will be provided by Spin City.
Tickets are $40 in advance, $50 at the door. VIP tickets available for $75 include hors d’oeuvres, high-end wine tasting and separate check-in. Call 969-4700 to purchase tickets.
