  3. "Bikes For Kids" Helps Hurricane Sandy Victims

    Last year, I did <a href="http://articles.courant.com/2011-10-10/features/hc-mommy-minute-20111010_1_bikes-chuck-graeb-turkey-dinner" target="_blank">a Mommy Minute story </a>about <a href="http://www.bikes-for-kids.net/" target="_blank">Bikes For Kids</a>, a wonderful, local organization with a simple mission: all children deserve to enjoy a bicycle. &nbsp;In a crammed garage, a few guys refurbish used bikes for boys and girls in need. &nbsp;They are intense about their job, making sure each one is tuned and shined to perfection. &nbsp;Now, this small non-profit, based in Centerbrook and Old Saybrook, is helping families hit hard by Hurricane Sandy and providing bikes to youngsters who lost theirs during the super storm.

    Well, we still have no power...and we found out last night that our Halloween parades - at school and in town - are cancelled because of the downed trees and power lines in our area....a result of Hurricane Sandy. &nbsp;Town officials are trying to keep the kids' spirits high by organizing an afternoon event at our middle school instead. &nbsp;So, Halloween will be different...but, we'll try to make the most of it.
