Report: Chesapeake an ecosystem in recovery

Scientists at the Chesapeake Bay Program have characterized the waterway as an "ecosystem in recovery," although it still faces major challenges. In its annual Bay Barometer report, the scientists cited signs of recovery and resilience around the watershed, such as a reduction in nutrient and sediment pollution, but said the bay remains impaired. "Human activities bring more roads, parking lots and rooftops that have a direct impact on water quality and living resources," said Nick DiPasquale, director of the Bay Program.
