Putting money back into the hands of community members and selling items for discount prices offers a unique opportunity to local consumers in the current economic climate.
The Better Sound Buy Sell Trade Co., located at 850 Scalp Avenue, Suite 80, has been specializing in the purchase and sale of used consumer electronics, vintage video games, movies, musical instruments and computers since 2007.
“We buy and sell items from the general public,” owner Derek J. Smith said. “We can provide fast cash for items and sell items usually at half of what they cost new.”
Smith said the unusual business model can assist those looking to sell their unused items in order to gain money in order to pay their bills or purchase items they need without spending a large sum of money.
“It certainly helps people by getting money in their pockets for their unwanted items,” he said.
Smith said the prices of their inventory are kept substantially less than their original retail cost to provide the consumer with the best possible value.
An expanding inventory of musical instruments including guitars are available at the shop, which can be purchased at much less than retail cost, he said.
“We try to sell our guitars around half of what they cost new and that keeps musicians outfitted,” he said, adding a variety of adapters, cables and amplifiers are also available for those looking to purchase equipment for less.
“It helps to give a starter the ability to pick up a guitar without having to spend a lot of money,” he said. “We never have a shortage of guitar stuff.”
Another popular item the business offers is access to a large selection of vintage and current video games.
“Vintage video games are making a huge come back,” Smith said. “Adults are trying to recapture the memories of their childhood and younger people are discovering the fun and simplicity of the older games.”
The store also offers a wide variety of consumer electronics including speakers, stereos, computers, Blu Ray and DVDs.
“We’re one of the only stores that actually still sell VHS tapes and the equipment to play them,” he said. “We surprisingly get a large number of people buying older movies, but for 97 cents a movie, you can’t beat that for a movie.”
Smith said anyone cleaning out their homes or interested in selling some of their unwanted items can contact the store at 814-266-7436.
“It’s a way people can get money fast,” he said, adding the store is always interested in purchasing new inventory.
