Clarksburg 6, Somerset 4
BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. — The Somerset Post 181 American Legion baseball team dropped a 6-4 decision to Clarksburg (W.Va.) in its opening game of the Hillbilly Hardball Classic on Thursday.
The Businessmen bolted to a 4-0 lead, scoring a pair of runs in the third and fourth innings.
Eric Costea led off the third with a double and scored on Tanner Stull's RBI single. Stull was driven home by Drew Hemminger, who also singled.
Stull smacked a two-run single in the fourth, scoring Jake Nickelson and Pat Blough.
Clarksburg plated its first run in the bottom of the fourth off Somerset starter Brent Barron.
Clarksburg then put together a two-out rally in the fifth that resulted in three more runs to tie the contest at 4-4.
The West Virginia squad pushed across a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth off Somerset reliever Randy Brewer to secure the win.
