The American Red Cross is holding a blood drive April 13 in honor of local resident Brian Mahon.
This event is to be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Galleria Mall in Johnstown, near Aunt Annie’s Pretzels. It is being sponsored by Our Town.
Mahon was diagnosed with Stage 4 pancreatic cancer last November and is undergoing chemotherapy treatments. He received one blood transfusion in January and also has weekly blood work and tests, which would indicate whether additional transfusions are needed.
Mahon’s family and friends would like to encourage area residents to donate blood and help raise awareness of the need for blood and blood products for patients such as him. More than 1 million people are diagnosed with cancer each year, according to Marianne Spampinato, American Red Cross Greater Alleghenies Region communications manager.
Blood donated during the April 13 blood drive will be used to support patients like Mahon and others across the 100-county service area of the American Red Cross, Greater Alleghenies Blood Services Region.
