Glenn R. Browning, 66, of Winchester, Va., and Central City, died Feb. 26, 2012, at Somerset Hospital. Born March 5, 1945, in Johnstown, son of Harland and Georgia (Stemple) Browning. Preceded in death by parents, sisters Blanche Slippy and Barbara Fleegle, and brother John Thomas Browning. Survived by his wife of 42 years the former Roberta Jean Long; children: Jennifer married to John Barron, Winchester, Va., and Jonathan Browning and wife Sherri, South Riding, Va.; grandchildren: Kayla and Nicholas Barron, Sydney, McKenna, and Samantha Browning; brother of: Swan Browning, Jim Browning, Vashti Cosgrove, Alice Rogers, and Loretta Hunt. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He was a Vietnam War Navy veteran, having retired after 23 years as Master Chief Boiler Mate. Also retired after 22 years as Director of Engineering from Prince William Hospital, Manassas, Va. He worked part-time at Lowe’s, Winchester for the past five years. Member of Calvary Church of the Brethren, Winchester and attended Unity United Church of Christ, Shanksville. He enjoyed reading, playing with grandchildren, and tinkering on the farm. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Deaner Funeral Home, Stoystown. Viewing from 10 a.m. until service at 11 a.m. Thursday at Unity United Church of Christ, 2074 Huckleberry Hwy., Berlin. Rev. Jay E. Shaffer officiating. Interment Glade Cemetery.
