Somerset Area Food Panty served 77,179 families, 196,740 clients to date in its 31 years of service. This was possible because of donations given by the community, according to site director George Stein.
Recent donations came from Boy Scout Unit 131 and Cub Scouts, Faith Lutheran Church, Calvary United Methodist Church, Sheetz at Rosina Ave., Boy Scouts 152 Friedens, Boy Scouts 538 Rockwood, Somerset Alliance Church, One Main Financial, Messiah Lutheran Church, St. Peter's Catholic Church and School, Vi's Group, Wheeler Brothers, Somerset Church of the Nazarene, Somerset Hospital, Whispering Pines, CVS, Somerset Chapter of Thrivent, Marie Waltermire, Somerset County Technology Center, Skills USA, St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, Beulah United Methodist Church, AWAMA Alliance Church, Troop 40304 Daisy Scouts, Carlye Grosholz, Friedens Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts 152 and Venturing Crew, Sam Beachy, leader, St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Somerset Senior Center, Culligan Water, Somerset Church of the Brethren, Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, Linda Johnson, Tom Mayak, Maggy Fieg (Wissinger) Boy Scouts 538, Calvary United Methodist Church, Mental Health Mental Retardation, Milford United Methodist Church, Sears, Children's Aid Home, Top 1429, Trinity Lutheran Church, Geiger Church of the Brethren, Walmart Truck in Ohio, Samuel's Lutheran Church, Girl Scouts Krystal Boberchock, Church of the Nazarene, Dollar General, St. John's United Methodist Church, Edie, 4-H, and other anonymous donors, according to Diane Krotzer, manager, who along with her husband Gene, and George Stein, pick up the gifts for distribution.
Volunteer hours given during May alone totaled 472.
"No one is paid and all volunteers give cheerfully," said the Rev. Jay Christner, chairman.
Sponsored by Somerset Area Ministeries, those who interviewed during May were the Revs. Arthur Black and Michael D. Faidley. Also interviewing were Patricia Brown, Donna Gardner, Janet Gulliver, Betty Harmon, Mona Hammer, Betty McGee, George Stein, site director, James Schrock, Fenna Queer, Ann Sechler, Ray Rizzo, Sally Stoltz and Peggy Egolf.
Packers were Nadine Airsman, Thomas Anderson, Gail Boucher, Linda Dorcon, Cecilia Flick, Ernie Peterson, Howard Harmon, Gene and Diane Krotzer, site manager, Connie Hearn, Don Miller, Doris Miller, Alice Schrock, Ron Schrock, Virginia Hemminger, George Stein, Jerry Johnson and Judie Suter.
Betty Ann Runner and Kandi Barron assisted in scheduling and writing thank you notes. Ann Persun is treasurer and Janet Gulliver, secretary. George Stein is site director and Diane Krotzer is site manager.

"We try to have representation from all the churches in the area on the board or working weekly at the pantry," said the Rev. Christner. "The pantry is open every Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. except when Somerset Area Schools are delayed or closed."
Clients may come 15 times during the year beginning June 1.
