Eli H. "Nick" Shockey Jr., Union Springs, New York, formerly of Johnstown
Eli H. “Nick” Shockey Jr., Union Springs, New York, died on April 16, 2013. He was born in Johnstown, the son of Eli and Florence Shockey. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; four children; four grandchildren; a sister; a brother-in-law; two nieces and a nephew. Following his service in the Navy during World War II, he received his master’s in social work from the University of Pittsburgh. He spent his career as a psychiatric social worker atthe Cayuga County Mental Health Center. He was an active member of the Trinity United Church of Christ, Warren Salem Town Lodge 147, Union Springs Lions Club, Camp Gregory Corporation, Union Springs Village Board, Damascus Shrine, and served on the board of the Frontenac Historical Society & Museum. For many years he was involved in scouting, and volunteered his time at Matthew House. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing, hunting, and golf. He was a member of the Salmon Creek Sportsman’s Club. A family man, he loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and other family members. A memorial service will be held later in the spring. In lieu of flowers, please honor his memory with contributions to Camp Caspar Gregory, Frontenac Historical Society & Museum, Matthew House, orTrinity United Church of Christ.
