Wilma Poborsky loves pineapple and cherries.
So when a friend told her about Dump Cake a year or two ago, she immediately had to make the recipe.
And she loved it.
"With pineapple and cherry together, I had no qualms making it," she said. "It's just so simple."
The recipe calls for a can of crushed pineapple and a can of cherry pie filling spread over the bottom of a cake pan. Dry cake mix is placed over the top of the fruit, then the mixture is sprinkled with melted butter and baked according to the cake mix directions.
"It's a little bit crunchy on top," the Salix woman said.
Poborsky said she usually makes the Dump Cake on holidays and special occasions.
"I don't want to get sick of it," she said with a laugh.
She said the cake has a sweet and tangy taste.
"Because of the fruit on the bottom, it's not like slicing a regular cake," Poborsky said. "It's not real firm."
