Carolyn Hess Harmon, 72, of Somerset, passed away on Wednesday, May 9, 2012, in the In Touch Hospice, Somerset. She was born Nov. 7, 1939, in Ligonier, a daughter of the late Thomas H. Frye Sr. and Virginia Sanford Frye. Carolyn worked as a cook in the Ligonier Valley School District, prior to her retirement as the head cook at the Somerset County Jail. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, James H. Hess and her second husband Edgar Harmon, a son, James H. “Jumbo” Hess, step-mother, Betty J. Frye, two brothers, William Frye and Thomas H. Frye Jr. Carolyn is survived by her three children, John Hess of Ligonier, Beth and her husband Larry Monticue, of Ligonier, Betty Jo Erb and her husband Lloyd of Ligonier, five grandchildren, Amanda, Michael, Adam, Johnathan, and Alex, three great-grandchildren, Ariona, Aidan, and Rylee, three sisters, Anne and her husband Richard Locy of Nevada, Gladys Russell of Arizona and Lori Frye of Ligonier, a brother, John and his wife Patty Frye of Pittsburgh. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the chapel of the Snyder Funeral Home Inc., 402 East Church Street, Ligonier with the Rev. Keith Deckinger, officiating. Interment will follow in Menoher Memorial Park, Ligonier Township. Memorial contributions may be made in Carolyn’s memory to the In Touch Hospice, 1474 north Avenue, Somerset, PA 15501.
