After nearly 23 years of business, the Ample Hamper in Champion is closing its doors.
Owned and run by Sally Trimbur, the market and delicatessen has served residents and tourists of the Seven Springs area for more than two decades. One of its signature offerings is "Sally's Famous Chicken Salad."
"When I opened the store in the summer of 1990, it was a product of my love for cooking and my desire to meet new people and make a difference in the community," Trimbur said. "I never imagined that the Ample Hamper — and my chicken salad — would become such a staple. It's been a great journey, but it's time for me to hang up my apron."
Trimbur said her greatest enjoyment — aside from her cooking — has been building relationships with customers, staff and business partners. The market supports local vendors such as Snyder of Berlin and Galliker's Dairy.
The second generation to reside in the Seven Springs area, Trimbur, 76, and her husband Tom, moved to the area from Pittsburgh in 1983 to reside in the home that her father-in-law built neighboring Seven Springs resort. Following her retirement, she plans to spend time traveling and visiting with her family, which includes four children and seven grandchildren.
The Ample Hamper, 231 County Line Road, is scheduled to close May 1. The owner would consider selling the store turn-key to an interested buyer.
